Accessible Media in This Course

This course offers a series of video clips. There several different ways for participants to access this kind of content. We recognize that not everyone has high speed internet or loads of bandwidth, and without it video content can sometimes be difficult to access without enduring long download times. We also know that video content can difficult for people with seeing or hearing disabilities to access too. As well, we understand that people learn differently and work in different contexts; some people prefer to see content they are studying, while others may prefer to read text or listen to an audio-only version.

In order to accommodate all of these different learning preferences, SNOW offers workshop video content in the following three different formats.

Alternate TextWatch the Video
Selecting this option provides participants with a video based version of the content. In order to better accommodate users with disabilities, the video is accompanied by Open Captions of the spoken audio. This appears much might like captions you would see on television. This video will open in a separate window so participants should ensure that pop-up blockers are configured to allow new windows to open.
Alternate Text Listen to the Audio
Selecting this option gives participants the ability to listen to an audio only version of the video content. This is much like listening to a book on tape; no video will open but the audio track of the video will play. Selecting this option provides participants with an opportunity to review the content quickly, by bypassing the video download times.
Alternate Text Read the Transcript
Selecting this option gives participants a text-based transcript of the video content that they can read. This option allows participants with very limited bandwidth the opportunity to read the transcript of the video and still participate in the workshop discussions. It also gives participants the option of checking the spelling or title of any particular resources that are mentioned throughout the presentation without having to review the video in it's entirety.
